This is: Roy Schenk – Digital Designer

Our team consists of about 40 employees, so there's always something to tell. In the section 'This is' we interview a colleague about his or her work, but also about dreams, trends and what we have just wanted to know about it. This is Roy Schenk!

Hi Roy! Who are you and what are you doing at Buro N11?
Hey! I’m Roy, I’m 33 years old and live in Bodegraven. After completing a graphic shaping course, I worked for several years at HSPublicity, the former Buro N11. After that I completed a follow-up communication & multimedia design at the Hogeschool van Rotterdam, and then working as a zzp’er for a few more years. Since the beginning of 2017 I am again employed by Buro N11. I am currently Digital Designer and am developing me as creative front-end developer.

What do you like about it?
After reading this interview, click on the team page! At Buro N11 you don’t work in your uppie on super cool projects, you do that together.

What are you most proud of?
In the meantime, I have been able to participate in many projects at N11, both large and small. Think of all kinds of digital projects like websites, online tools and apps. And actually, I’m most proud of that, because I wouldn’t be proud of something I’m not proud of. In addition, I am proud of the fact that I bought the most beautiful house in Bodegraven last year!

How do you keep up to date with what’s going on in your field?
I do that in different ways. I read blogs and have liked quite a few creative pages and other professionals on Facebook and LinkedIn. In addition, I subscribed to a number of newsletters. Some of them get me through Whatsapp. Handy, right? Furthermore, I follow various training sessions and online bootcamps via Udemy. The teachers of this online training platform ensure that the knowledge you gain remains constantly up-to-date.

What’s the last book you’ve read?
Frankly, I’m not such a bookreader, except when I’m on the beach in summer baking with a cold Corona. The last book was undoubtedly about the fishing, my great passion. The book scheduled for the upcoming summer holidays is also planned. That book is called ‘Esox’, which is the Latin name for pike. Sounds good as far as I’m concerned: sun, beer, pike book.

About the photo: from where that rod?
I’ve been secretly telling it a little bit in the previous question, but I’m crazy about everything that has to do with the fishing. I like to fish, I write about it, I’m working on my own fishboat, I’m shooting fish and I dream about it. I enjoy the outdoors and the combination between relaxation and tension. The underwater world fascinates me enormously.

What three things are you happy about?
I’m sure you’re not surprised when I start fishing again, right? Furthermore, I am happy with a good specialty beer in the backyard with my (fish) sizes or a great party or festival.

What are you listening to in the car?
House! I prefer to listen to Garage House, streamed live from England. Garage House is quite an appropriate name for music in the car, isn’t it? With house music I grew up: I don’t know better if my father house was turned. He still does that, by the way. When you visit my parents, you shouldn’t be surprised if you hear beats and bass banging out of the speakers all night.

What’s your biggest dream?
What many people don’t know is that there are huge catfish swimming around in the Netherlands. Regularly, copies are caught that cross the 2-meter limit (yes, two meters – no, no typo). That’s very high on my list.

What question would you ask which colleague?
Ricardo, are you going to get some coffee or what about that?
